Feeling Good Today

FEEING GOOD TODAY
I woke up this morning feeling good today
The sun’s in the sky and the rains gone away
I’m gonna walk through the forest, gonna swim in the sea
And ain’t nothing gonna get to me
I’m gonna play my guitar and sing me a song
Doze in the sun for way too long
I’ve got time on my hands and no place to be
Oh I’m feeling good today
Like Lazarus rising I can’t believe
I can smell the flowers I can feel the breeze
But a wind of change has rolled my stone away
And I feel so alive today
Well I was caught in the shallows I was stuck in the mud
I’d hit the bottom with a great big thud
But a tide of optimism has lifted me
And I feel so good today
There were days like these that I let slip away
Good times to be had that I didn’t make pay
But now’s the best time to cut the past free
And I’m gonna make the most of today
Well I’ve got a new mantra and I’ve etched it stone
And I chant it each day in an eastern tone
And each time I repeat it what I say
Is oh it’s good to be alive
Yes it’s good to be alive
Oh it’s good to be alive today

Dog Line

DOG LINE
They bought me here, for stealing bread
But I had to keep my good family fed
They threw me in this stinking ships hull
For nine months I had to breathe that smell
I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’m gonna cross the dog line
Yes tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’ve got to get back to the love of mine
So tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line
They had me here cutting logs all day
They say a fallen man, has to earn his way
And at night shackled to my bed
A plank of wood my meal a crust of bread
I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’m gonna cross the dog line
Yes tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’ve got to get back to the love of mine
So tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line
On the isle of the dead, today they buried me
They have my body, now my soul is free
Across the narrow ground, chained eighteen savage hounds
I can slip right past without a sound
I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’m gonna cross the dog line
Yes tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line
I’ve got to get back to the love of mine
So tonight I’m gonna cross the dog line

Deep Dark Water

DEEP DARK WATERS
They dived into deep dark waters
But you know you can’t stay down there too long
When you dive into deep dark waters
Pretty soon you must move on
When you’re on the bottom the only way is up
When you hear the warning bells
You better lay your anger down and give it up
Only fools fight their friends but some lovers like to fight it out
We all know where it ends when you yell and you punch
When you scream and you kick and you shout
I shared a house with two good friends
Now they’re good friends no more
Everyday they’re at each other
Trying to even out the score
It’s sad what happened with these two
I watched them sinking down
It started out all pink and blue
And now it’s turned a dirty black and brown
Only fools fight their friends but some lovers like to fight it out
We all know where it ends when you yell and you punch
when you scream and you kick and you shout
I’m moving where the sun it shines,
Shines down on me
I’m gonna get me a little shack
And live down by the sea
And when the sun comes up each day
That’s when I’ll rise
And when it’s going down again
That’s when I’m gonna shut my eyes
Only fools fight their friends but some lovers like to fight it out
We all know where it ends when you yell and you punch
When you scream and you kick and you shout

More Than I Need

MORE THAN I NEED
Simple food and a scratch of friends
Some time to feel the wind in my hair
A few spare coins to put to good deeds
Not bad I’ve got more than I need
The teasing of lust fortune and fame
Left off like a dream that fades with the day
Left me feel what it’s like to be free
Not bad I’ve got more than I need
Come visit me when you break from the line
Come on and dance to the slow beat of time
Turn from the madness of excess and greed
I’ve got more than I need

Sweet Serene

SWEET SERENE
Sweet Serene smile on me
Take my mind to rest in me
In your tranquility, in your zen stone sea
Where islands float in eternity
Oh Sweet Serene on a summer’s eve
Across my skin blow a gentle breeze
Oh Sweet Serene flow over me
Like a mountain stream wash my cares away
Like a mountain stream wash my cares away

The Sea

THE SEA
The sea is her father
Her mother is dead
The tide fills the rock pools
And withdraws through the heads
That’s the sea
On a cold, windswept coastline
She ponders the pain
Of a childhood she once had
And can’t have again
By the sea
Her man’s a confusion
Of confidence and fear
Sometimes so distant
And sometimes so near
To the sea
The sea is her father
Her sisters, the moon
Heaven, the composer
And Earth calls the tune
Of the sea
The sea has a schedule
To rise and to fall
Her tears fill the rock pools
And sirens still call
From the sea
The sea is her father
Her mother is dead
The tide has no time
And withdraws through the heads
That’s the sea

No Room at the Top

NO ROOM AT THE TOP
Presidents fall kings abdicate
Dictators hide popes trust in their faith
Judges get drunk crime bosses get shot
There ain’t no room at the top
Actors upstaged champions fade
Models grow old guitar heroes out played
The hopeful let down and the weary give up
Cause there ain’t no room at the top
When we dig our own ditch then we can’t complain
If the hole that we’re in is the one that we made
Heed these words cherish what you’ve got
There ain’t no room there ain’t no room
There ain’t no room at the top
